The Second Afternoon Hunt
Blake decided he wanted to work his heart out after a Mulie so we dropped him off so he could hike some serious canyons and the rest of us headed to the “back country.”  Loren, Brian and I decided we would all spread out across this long ridge so that we could cover a big piece of country.  I scared off two whitetail does hiking up the side of a canyon to get in place.  There were some good, heavily used trails and the hope set in again that a big buck would come wondering down one of them.  The sun kept setting and nothing was moving where I was except for about a hundred knats trying to get into my head through my eyes, ears, or mouth.  It is very hard to sit still when that’s happening. I decided to just enjoy the view and drink some chilled water out of my backpack.  I was trying out a new piece of gear I bought.  It was a backpack with a plastic sack you fill up with water along with a long tube to drink from.  It turned out pretty useful!

The Third Morning Hunt
This was the day we were leaving.  I had not gotten any sleep and had an 8 hour drive ahead of me so I sat this one out and slept in.  Boy was that nice! Blake, Loren, and Brian went out but ended up empty handed.

All in all I don’t think this trip could have been better.  We drove hours and hours to hunt somewhere with only a lousy map and ended up harvesting a whitetail buck.  I was extremely happy and proud of Blake.  It was just another hunt in the panhandle of Texas that I’ll remember forever.

I sincerely appreciate Blake, Loren, and Brian coming out, bring good food, a camper and being great company.  There were two others who came out to hunt with us but unfortunately we were never able to meet up.  I hope we can again soon.

Good job fellas, if you can shoot a deer in lake meredith or on the canadian river then luck was definitely on your side. There are lots of deer but more hunters than you can shake a stick at. Glad to see someone from down south have interest for the panhandle and what it has to offer. I have hunted the area every year since i was old enough to tag along with my dad. They're is some other awesome hunting also around lake meredith. good job, good pics, i really enjoyed

no it is just public land that is part of the lake meredith state park. there are no fees to enter the park. they allow hunting and fishing but you do have to buy a boat permit to launch a boat
