This is one big Coral Snake, and unfortunately, this is not at the ranch, it is in our backyard. My grandkids were about to go out in the backyard when my son spotted it. It was just laying there, basking in the sun while my son measured it. He ended up becoming a hat band.

Nothing like a little STX rattlesnake to liven-up your deer or quail hunt...

These are super think leggings that allow you to wear shorts until you hunt, put on the leggings while you hunt, and then take them off again as soon as you are back in the truck. The owner said he designed them over a long period of time and tested them by filling the legging with ballons and putting them in a box of rattle snakes until he made a pair that the snakes couldn't burst the ballons. These would be nice on those hot days hunting turkey, dove & quail. He also mentioned they work great work walking through the thorns of South Texas.

Someone told  me that this is a Texas Rat Snake. Whatever it is, he has eaten a prcelain egg.  Some varieties of chicken snakes will die when they eat a porcelain or glass egg. This snake easily regurgitated the egg three times. Also the real eggs are broken and the shell is expelled in a wad. After eating a half dozen eggs, the snake looks pretty full. The last two snakes were after my Corturnix quail and killed three.They usuallly are trapped after they eat because they can't get back out through the same hole they came in.

Hi Conchoman! Been a  Long time. I have a lease out of Falfurrias and the Quail are thick down there. I've only seen one Bobcat, and lots and lots of Coyotes and Big Birds of Prey, though. I don't know how they survive so well but they do. I haven't seen any in Karnes county for a few years and they have less coyotes, but probably more Bobcats. Don't knw about building them anything. Snake trap!
